MASSAGE THERAPY

What is Therapeutic Massage?

At one time Massage was thought of as simply a way to relax. It was something that people would have done at spas on the weekends after a long work week, more or less as part of a recreational milieu. Today, we know that Massage can have genuine medicinal merits when it is done by a professional who is properly trained in the art and science of Massage therapy.

The practice comes in many forms and can be a key therapy in relieving a host of chronic pain conditions and musculoskeletal problems. Massage is useful primarily in promoting better blood flow to a given area, in loosening up tight scar-tissue laden muscles and tendons, and in de-constricting interlaced connective tissues that tend to tighten over the course of our lives.

Although massage can feel very relaxing for most, "therapeutic massage" is a general term that differs from "relaxation massage" that describes any type of massage technique that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific condition/body part or injury. It may include full body such as neck, shoulders, back, hips, and extremities. Various techniques deep tissue, swedish, cupping, specialty prenatal/postpartum and others are utilized.

Our massage therapists are "registered", meaning they have completed rigorous academic and clinical studies for a minimum of 2200 hours in order to join professional massage associations and massages provided are eligible for medical insurance coverage.

Your First Visit

Prior to your first visit, please take a few moments to complete your New Patient Intake paperwork or arrive 10-minutes early to complete a paper version, as this will provide our therapists with the required information to evaluate your health needs to ensure the utmost care.

During your first visit, you will share information about your condition, massage pressure preferences and your reasons for seeking massage care at this time. You can expect to undress to your comfort level before laying under sheets as if you were in bed, typically face down to start. You may chat about areas of focus or full body massage should time and condition permit.

After your treatment, some homecare recommendations may have been suggested to you including water intake/lifestyle modifications, ice/heat application, bath or stretching and various follow-up treatment. Depending on your work, sleep or driving posture and activities, expect to feel a need to come in for massage occasionally for support. Your compliance with our team's recommendations will ensure optimal results!
