Active Release Therapy

What is Active Release Therapy?

According to Healthline.com active release therapy (ART) is “[a technique that] treats soft tissue through manipulation and movement. The technique has been around for more than 3 decades. ART is done by identifying and targeting affected areas to break up accumulated scar tissue. This relieves stiffness, promotes blood flow, and accelerates healing.”

ART is used by Chiropractors (DC's), Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's), Physical Therapists (PT's), and Physicians (MD's) alike to relieve chronic pain, stiffness, and restricted blood flow to various parts of the body. The primary target tissues are muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

Throughout our lives, injury, stress, and chronic tension all conspire to generate scar tissue and injuries that are very difficult to treat and to heal. ART allows the affected areas to receive blood flow, to flex, and to heal. The results can be truly dramatic.
